The Future for Nuance
In early October, Nuance held an industry analyst briefing to provide an update on the status of the acquisition and integration of Equitrac, new offerings and the future direction for Nuance. The main statement that was made throughout the day was, “Equitrac is the best acquisition we have ever made.” As an analyst that compares various MPS technologies and software, I could see the potential synergy between eCopy and Equitrac. From all appearances, Nuance has integrated these two solutions further driving enhanced functionality in document capture, management and workflow processes along with cost recovery and user management. This deep integration enables the possibility for service providers to monetize workflow solutions on a “per click” basis so-to-speak as each scan can be tracked.
In addition the discussion of recent acquisitions, Nuance discussed a few new offerings they are bringing to market. The first of these is eCopy Scan to Cloud. ECopy Scan to Cloud is a new member of the eCopy lineup designed for light workflow to email and public cloud products. This solution includes OCR conversion to Word, Excel and searchable PDF. It is intended for the SMB market predominately. Pricing will depend on Nuance MFP vendor partners and their pricing strategies. It is likely to be a monthly or annual pricing based on page throughput.
The other announcement made was the release of vertical specific solution packs for eCopy. Vertical solutions are to be a key strategic focus for Nuance in fiscal year 2012. The focus will be on legal and healthcare verticals initially with solutions being rolled out on November 1. Government and education packages are to follow at an unknown date. These solutions are designed to be supported by product, marketing and sales support.
Overall, the analyst briefing was quite good and gave good insight into Nuance’s strategic direction. With eCopy and Equitrac tightly integrated, Nuance can focus on delivering BPO and workflow enhancements. Combining this with the new vertical focus creates the potential for even greater enhancements as it offers the ability to offer more custom solutions to meet user’s needs. eCopy and Equitrac are strong solutions that have been in the market place for quite some time. Together, they are even stronger.
